Keadaan suhu dinegara kita memang tergolong panas. Oleh sebab itu, bagi para pengendara, Air Condition (AC) tealah menjadi suatu kelengkapan standar. Tidak akan terasa nyaman jika berkendara tanpa dihembus dinginnya AC. Apalagi,jika jalur yang dilewati padat dan kerap dilanda kemacetan lalu lintas.

Akan tetapi, untuk bisa benar-benar bekerja dengan baik, AC juga butuh performa mesin yang prima. Apabila tidak, bukanlah suatu yang mustahil tiap hendak menghidupkan AC, mesin menjadi tidak kuat. Seakan-akan mesin akan mati sehingga kita terdorong untuk menginjak pedal gas. Mesin memang tetap hidup sepanjang pedal gas terus diinjak.

Kasus ini umumnya, kasus seperti di atas timbul karena penyetelan RPM (putaran per menit) tidak ideal. Penyetelan yang ideal adalah penyetelan yang menyesuaikan antara putaran mesin dan beban yang harus diangkat mesin. Beban utama yang harus diangkat mesin adalah berat fisik kendaraan beserta muatannya. Selain itu, yang juga menjadi beban mesin adalah kompresor AC saat dihidupkan. Mesin akan terasa mau mati jika beban tidak sesuai dengan putaran pada mesin.

Untuk menyesuaikan beban dan putaran mesin, maka itulah penyetelan RPM sangat diperlukan. Idealnya, pada saat idle (AC tidak dihidupkan) kurang lebih 800 RPM. Jika idle dengan kondisi AC hidup, kurang lebih 900 RPM. Jika penyetelah mesin adalah 800, tapi AC dihidupkan, maka mesin akan cenderung ingin mati.

Biasanya, pada saat kendaraan di tune up, akan selalu dilakukan penyetelan RPM. Hal ini sudah prosedur standar di setiap bengkel mobil. Hanya saja, tidak semua mobil membutuhkan penyetelan. Tergantung sistem bahan bakar yang digunakannya.

Penyetelan ini akan sangat dibutuhkan oleh mobil-mobil yang menggunakan sistem bahan bakar karburator. Untuk mobil yang menggunakan sistem bahan bakar injeksi, ada yang memerlukan penyetelan manual, ada juga yang sudah otomotis dilakukan oleh komputer mesin.

Ahal yang perlu diingat, penyetelan harus dilakukan secara periodik. Sebab, getaran yang ditimbulkan mesin akan membuat baut setelan RPM berubah, atau mengendor. Sebaiknya penyetelan dilakukan setiap 10.000 km, atau setiap kali di-tune up.

Anh, Jadi, jangan lupa untuk tune up mobil Anda secara periodik. Selain RPM akan disetel, juga untuk memeriksa komponen-komponen yang berpotensi akan rusak. Misalnya, busi, platina, kondensor, van belt, saringan udara, saringan bensin, atau saringan solar pada mobil berbahan bakar diesel. (suk.016)
